Driving a sand car is an adrenaline-fueled thrill ride like nothing else on Earth. Outfitted with 1000+ horsepower engines and trick long-travel suspension systems, sand cars can top 150 mph and wheelie with just a blip of the throttle. The new Traxxas Pro Scale Sand Car is a 55+ mph replica purpose-built to deliver the same raw excitement and thrill of driving the full-size Funco Motorsports car in dramatic X-Series scale.

X-Series Size

Both longer and wider than the legendary X-Maxx, the Pro Scale Sand Car is the largest member of the X-Series family. This immense size gives the Sand Car incredible scale detail, authentic driving dynamics, and an imposing presence. The Sand Car’s huge footprint provides extra stability to blast down desert trails and fly over dunes with ease.

Scale Details

Traxxas pulled out all the stops to replicate the full-size Funco GTU Sand Car in exact detail. The Pro Scale Sand Car features a full interior with dashboard and driver figures and replica remote-reservoir 3.5″ shocks. The engine is a work of art, comprised of 9 different pieces, including licensed R2C air filters and a Whipple supercharger.

Front Disc Brakes

Powerful front disc brakes work in tandem with the rear motor braking for powerful and controlled 4-wheel stopping power. Sheathed cables clamp the calipers down on drilled stainless steel rotors for scale authenticity. A digital 2075 servo actuates the brakes through an adjustable linkage for greater braking precision and control.

Belted Paddle Tyres

The Pro Scale Sand Car’s aggressive paddle tyres feature twice the traditional number of ribs for extreme traction off the line. A belted carcass prevents the paddles from distorting for maximum forward bite in the sand and powerful acceleration.

Internal Tube Frame

A rugged tube frame supports the entire Pro Scale Sand Car body from end to end. The heavily reinforced structure protects the car in case of rollovers and provides a rigid mounting point for the wing and clipless mounts. When it’s time to release the body, simply pull on the self-energizing latches and the entire structure lifts off in seconds.

VXL-8s Power System

The Pro Scale Sand Car features Traxxas’ most powerful brushless system, the Velineon VXL-8s speed control and 1200XL 1275kv brushless sensorless motor. The high-performance VXL-8s maximizes power output across the entire rpm range. Bury the throttle at any speed and the Sand Car instantly wheelies until you back off…or run out of desert.

Precision Driveline

With 30+ volts of brushless power going only to the rear wheels, the Pro Scale Sand Car needs a radically strong driveline. Inside the massively reinforced case, huge module 1.5 wide-face transmission gears feed uninterrupted power to the wheels. A beefed-up X-Maxx differential with larger output cups engages steel driveshafts to form the toughest driveline ever outfitted to a Traxxas vehicle.

High-Visibility Wicked Cool Whip Lights

Colourful whip lights rise over 10 inches above the body to provide a clear and bright visibility marker when storming dunes at 55+ mph. The lights are color-matched to the body to give the car a dramatic look. New Flex-Tech spring-loaded mounts allow the whip lights to bend without breaking in case of rollovers.

2WD X-Series Chassis - Brand new low CG chassis developed specially for the torque and flex of 2wd power with a reinforcing brace to unify front and rear into one cohesive, supertough unit.

Clipless Body Convenience - Clipless body shell easily removes and installs in just seconds, locking securely in place without the need for easily lost body clips. A rigid internal tube frame cage minimises body flex whilst holding the rear wing and whip lights securely in place.

All new 2wd Transmission - Traxxas have engineered the strongest ever 2wd transmission they have ever fitted to a vehicle. The chunky reinforced case cradles the gears in perfect alignment with heavy duty bearings for smooth power transfer. Huge 1.5mod, wide face steel gears provide extra strength for dependable power delivery.

TQi Radio System - Traxxas famous TQi radio system delivers superior range, 30 model memory and a fast frame rate for excellent range and responsiveness out in the field.

Secure Battery Storage - Vehicle batteries are stored deep inside the chassis in specially designed battery wells to hold the batteries in place even in rollovers. Rugged snaplock retainers keep a firm grip on the batteries and are quick and easy to use.

Traxxas Stability Management - Driving a powerful 2wd vehicle on a loose surface like sand can usually guarantee loss of control, even for excellent drivers. Traxxas Stability Management (TSM) helps you learn control and driving characteristics and its assistance can be increased or decreased by use of the multifunction knob on your radio.

Optional Pro-Scale Light Kit - The optional Pro-Scale Light Kit (10996) offers front and rear LED light bars with high beam function and working brake/reverse lights. Add even more detail with the shock mounted Rock Lights (10999), side mounted Pod Lights (10917) and the underbody light kit (10998-blue/ red/ grn/ orng) for a spectacular night drive experience.

High Performance Wing - Provides aerial stability in high performance runs and a highly accurate scale appearance.

Wheelie Bar - 2WD makes the Funco a wheelie monster. The included wheelie bar not only prevents backflips but also helps absorb impacts from less than perfect landings.

High Performance Belted Sand Paddle Tyres - Aggressive paddle tread tyres bite into loose sand for relentless acceleration and massive roosts. The arrow pattern on the front tyres give the perfect amount of float for easy driving even in deep sand and deliver a beefy contact patch for responsive steering and excellent braking.

Replica Beadlock Wheels - All new 3.6in wheels modelled after the full size Funco car with colour matched simulated beadlock rings and aluminium wheel nuts to match.

Scaled and Detailed Interior - For complete scale authenticity Traxxas have made a fully detailed interior even including authentically replicated screens and guages on the dashboard, seat belts, steering wheel and shift lever.

Smooth Undertray - Interlocking skid plates precisely integrate with the Funco's chassis to create a smooth undertray that glides over sand and absorbs ground impacts evenly.

GT-Maxx Aluminium Shocks - Aluminium GT-Maxx shocks with adjustable ride height collars are built to replicate the huge 3.5in diameter shocks on the real life Funco Sand Car. Replica remote reservoirs give the shocks an authentic scale appearance whilst new extended aluminium bodies and shafts in the rear provide additional travel to tame the roughest desert terrain.

Integrated Shock Towers - The Sand Cars' shock towers are an integral part of the frame with massive buttresses to dissipate shock loads throughout the chassis.

Low CG Chassis - Performance based cars behave better on a low center of gravity chassis. The low CG chassis on the Sand Car does exactly this, by lowering the center of gravity you get better handling and power distribution to all four wheels, keeping the car low and centered provides more control.

Aluminium Heatsink with Dual Fans - The Velineon 1200XL motor uses an aluminium heatsink that wraps around nearly 75% of the motor surface to pull out more heat and dual side mounted cooling fans help circulate cooler air through the fins.

Rock Solid Motor Mount - The 2 part motor mount which has been so successful in X-Maxx and XRT is put into use here again. The four key pins system stops the motor from moving no matter how you drive.

High Performance Dual Steering Bellcrank - Extra beefy with a heavy duty servo saver and a bearing supported, double-shear servo horn to eliminate flex. Special vents have been built in to evacuate sand away from vital steering components.

Ultra-Heavy Duty Driveshafts - The Sand Cars rear driveshafts are the toughest ever fitted to a Traxxas vehicle. New beefed up diff output yokes are even larger than X-Maxx and 17mm splined aluminium axles in conjunction with steel CV driveshafts maximise suspension travel and durability.

Sealed 4-Gear Diff - The Sand Car uses the same battle tested internal diff gears from X-Maxx but the housing has been massively beefed up with huge 1.5mod ultra-HD straight cut ring gear for uncompromising durability. The diff is sealed to allow limited slip tuning with different viscosity oils.

Direct Drive Transmission - The direct drive transmission provides instant throttle response and power delivery. Traxxas reinforced the transmission case for bombproof durability.
